Investment strategy for green offshore industry in Denmark

In the Autumn of 2010, The Danish Alliance for Offshore Renewables, which brings together major forces within green offshore energy in Denmark such as The Danish Wind Industry Association, the Confederation of Danish Industry, Offshore Center Denmark, and Lindoe Offshore Renewable Center, asked Innovayt to produce a set of policy recommendations and projected investment needs for the continued development of their industries in Denmark.

The motivation for the Alliance was the following: Denmark is forced to take an active approach to the development of the future offshore renewables industry, if the country is to maintain its frontrunner position within offshore wind and wave power.

During the second half of 2010, Innovayt mapped the entire Danish and European industry and undertook extensive analysis, as well as contacts with stakeholders in the industry, in order to produce a set of coherent recommendations supported by empirical evidence. In the final report, an extensive catalogue of investments is rated and recommended with regard to research and innovation, infrastructure, and the education of a highly skilled labor force.

Overall, the report concludes that, provided that an investment plan and adequate framework conditions governing the industry are set in place, employment in the Danish offshore wind and wave industry could grow to 47,000 highly qualified people by 2020.

The full report (in Danish) as well as an English summary can be downloaded from the Alliance for Offshore Renewables website.
